Ghost Pine: All Stories True

In thirteen years of publishing the influential zine Ghost Pine, author and editor Jeff Miller did not stray from its motto: “All Stories True.” Despite this, readers frequently claimed that his autobiographical stories were far-fetched. At the launch of his eagerly awaited collection, Ghost Pine: All Stories True (Invisible Publishing), Miller will take the stage to discuss the history of the zine and do some fact-checking. Presenting photographs, letters and audio cassettes from his archives in conjunction with his stories, he will light-heartedly play with truth and memory, fact and representation. Marc Glassman, Executive Director of This Is Not A Reading Series (TINARS) will host the evening. – A TINARS event presented with Invisible Publishing, Gladstone Hotel, NOW Magazine, Torontoist.com, and Take Five On CIUT.

Ghost Pine: All Stories True collects the best of thirteen years of Jeff Miller’s seminal Ghost Pine zine. Miller’s sparkling stories isolate the small moments and overlooked details of everyday life. They are equal measures funny and sad, nostalgic and unsentimental, punk rock and grandparents. Over the years Miller has sold nearly ten thousand copies of his long-running, self-published zine, putting him at the forefront of a thriving underground cultural movement.

"Finally, the best stories from Canada's longest running and best punk zine all in one long-overdue book! Jeff Miller is a collector of lost moments and a poet of the back alleys of the heart where we tenderly but ferociously guard innocence, inspiration, and our deepest fragile hopes from an indifferent world. Ghost Pine is a tree fort, a train yard, a treasure map. A refuge." - Erick Lyle, author of On the Lower Frequencies.

Jeff Miller has published the zine Ghost Pine since 1996. His writing has also appeared in The 2nd Hand, Broken Pencil, Zine Yearbook and The Art of Trespassing (Invisible Publishing). Born and raised in Ottawa, he has lived in Montreal for the past decade, where he continues to write.
